Gulf Coast Builders Exchange (GCBX)

About Gulf Coast Builders Exchange

Gulf Coast Builders Exchange (GCBX) is a professional trade association representing the commercial contracting industry across Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte Counties. Our membership includes commercial contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, industry professionals, and partners.

GCBX provides advocacy, networking opportunities, education, and programs that strengthen our members and the commercial construction industry.

Position Summary

GCBX is seeking an experienced, relationship-focused professional to lead and strengthen our membership efforts. The Senior Director of Membership will take ownership of member recruitment, onboarding, engagement, renewals, and retention, helping members connect with the full value of GCBX.

This is a senior, hands-on opportunity for someone who takes initiative, plans ahead, and follows through without requiring extensive day-to-day direction. Working closely with the Executive Director, this position will help advance established organizational and operational priorities through coordinated planning, communication, and reliable execution.

The role offers significant autonomy, direct collaboration with the Executive Director, and the opportunity to build relationships with business and industry leaders throughout the region. The right person will make a visible impact on GCBX’s membership, operational priorities, and continued growth.

The ideal candidate is a confident communicator and relationship builder who brings sound judgment, professional maturity, and the ability to manage priorities effectively as part of a lean, collaborative staff.

Key Responsibilities

Membership Development, Engagement & Communications

  • Build relationships with prospective members and communicate the value of GCBX membership.
  • Lead member recruitment, onboarding, engagement, renewals, and retention through consistent communication and timely follow-up.
  • Help members connect with GCBX programs, events, committees, advocacy, and other opportunities for involvement.
  • Develop and coordinate membership-related communications, including member and prospect emails, newsletter content, LinkedIn posts, website updates, and promotional messaging.
  • Use GCBX’s CRM and automated communications to support consistent prospect follow-up, member onboarding, engagement, renewals, and retention.
  • Work independently and in collaboration with the Executive Director and GCBX’s outside marketing resource to maintain clear, consistent, and timely messaging.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with GCBX members and Keystone Partners, including helping interested companies explore opportunities for deeper engagement and investment in the organization.
  • Maintain accurate membership records, reports, and outreach activity and use that information to identify opportunities and concerns.
  • Oversee membership-related invoicing, renewal communications, collections follow-up, and associated records.

Operational Planning & Executive Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to advance established membership, organizational, and operational priorities.
  • Participate in advance planning, help maintain focus on upcoming needs and commitments, and keep assigned initiatives moving forward.
  • Take ownership of delegated work and provide the coordination, communication, and follow-through needed to carry it through to completion.
  • Recognize needs or potential issues, raise them early, and adjust execution as priorities and circumstances change.
  • Collaborate effectively with staff, committees, and outside resources to support GCBX’s agenda.

Committee Collaboration

  • Serve as staff liaison to the Membership Committee, working with member volunteers who contribute industry knowledge, relationships, ideas, and outreach in support of membership goals.
  • Provide the planning, communication, reporting, and follow-through needed to turn committee involvement into coordinated action.
  • Provide staff support to other GCBX committees as assigned, working with member volunteers to advance established committee and organizational priorities.

Member Engagement at GCBX Events

  • Attend GCBX events as a member-facing representative, building relationships and helping prospective, new, and current members connect with the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Events Director and assist at events as part of the GCBX staff, with a primary focus on membership relationships and engagement.
  • Promote event sponsorship opportunities that help members increase their visibility, engage with the industry, and build their brands.
  • Attend evening events regularly, typically at least once per month.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in membership development, relationship management, business development, marketing, association management, or a related field.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage business owners, executives, committee leaders, members, and prospective members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, professional judgment, organization, and reliable follow-through.
  • Ability to independently manage responsibilities, plan ahead, and move work forward without extensive day-to-day oversight.
  • Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel, with the ability to learn and effectively use CRM, website, email, and membership-management systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently as part of a lean staff where planning, flexibility, and shared contribution are important.
